Sea Glass Jewelry Workshop with Ann Pollard- Ranco, Penobscot

The Abbe is hosting a unique drop in workshop for visitors to learn more about sea glass art with Ann Pollard-Ranco, Penobscot. Ann invites you to sit and chat with her about her art while she gives guests a demonstration of her process. You are also welcome to try your hand at making a pendant of your own to take home!

This program is being offered in conjunction with the Abbe’s new temporary art exhibit wolankeyutomon: Take Care of Everything. Wolanketutomon, a collaboration between Maritime Indigenous Artists, Inc. (MIA) and the Abbe Museum, explores the protection of waters sacred to the Wabanaki and the conservation of sea-life living in those waters. It will feature original artwork created by indigenous artists living in the New England region of the United States and the Canadian Maritimes (from Connecticut to Labrador).

This program is free with the price of regular admission. No need to reserve a spot, this is a drop in program. Questions? Email us at educator@abbemuseum.org

Drum Making Workshop with Natalie Dana, Passamaquoddy/Penobscot

We have an exciting opportunity for those interested in learning how hand drums are made! Natalie Dana will be hosting a workshop at the Abbe Museum where participants will be able to make their own hand drum to take home with them. Natalie is a Passamaquoddy and Penobscot artist specializing in drum making and is a graduate from the University of Maine with a bachelor’s degree in anthropology.

This workshop is recommended for adults since the use of sharp tools is necessary. Participants will be working with animal hide and should be prepared to get messy.

Molly is a recipient of the 2012 Traditional Heritage Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts and has been leading these workshops at the Abbe for years.

This two-day workshop will begin at 9 am and end at 4 pm each day. There will be an hour lunch break during the workshop. Registration required, space limited. The cost of this workshop is $250. Register soon, spots fill up fast!
