Through this program, we're partnering with museums across the country to make sure everyone can experience the best museums have to offer. To find other participating museums, visit the Museums for All website. The Abbe honors all forms of public assistance for this program.

  • The downtown museum does not have a public parking lot on-site. However, we do offer one ADA-accessible spot for visitors visiting the museum in the Staff lot behind the building. For information about public parking in Bar Harbor, we recommend the town website.

  • Parents, guardians, and caregivers must be responsible for the supervision of their children at all times. Neither museum staff nor volunteers can take the place of a parent/guardian or assume responsibility for unsupervised children at any point during your visit.

All children 15 and under must be supervised at all times (“supervised child”) and in the immediate presence of a parent/guardian or other responsible caregiver identified by a parent/guardian. Caregivers must be a minimum of 16 years or older.

Children aged 16 and older (“unsupervised children”) may be unsupervised provided that:
    • They are able to behave appropriately while unsupervised.
    • The time they are left alone does not exceed the child’s comfort level with the situation.
    • They are, at all times, the legal responsibility of their parent/legal guardian and have an emergency contact available who can come and pick them up at the museum on short notice.

  • The Sieur de Monts location is temporarily closed for maintenance. Please subscribe to our social media and e-newsletter for future announcements, and consider visiting our other location in downtown Bar Harbor.

  • The Abbe Museum at Sieur de Monts Spring was founded in 1926 and first opened to the public in 1928. The museum is named for its founder, Dr. Robert Abbe (1851-1928), an eminent New York physician known for his pioneering use of radiation therapy. A beloved summer resident of Bar Harbor, during the 1920s Dr. Abbe assembled a collection of early Native American artifacts found in the Frenchman Bay area. (Learn More)
